Safe Study

Safe Study has created safe urban spaces for the children in Johannesburg CBD since April 2020 to engage in foundation learning support that combines arts, academic & mental wellness into one educational experience. Through the creation of a safe urban space, they are able to run weekly arts and cultural programs covering academic support, visual arts, environmental education and outdoor education.

The AVI Community Investment Trust funding contributed towards the operational needs of the organization in ensuring that they continue to provide the weekly programmes to underprivileged children.

Just Grace

Established in 2012, Just Grace aims to alleviate poverty in the Langa community of Cape Town by supporting education attainment and skills training, through the delivery of a range of education, community development and entrepreneurial projects. To ensure the impact of their work, they work from premises in Langa, identify needs and design projects through consultation with community members and organizations.

The AVI Community Investment Trust continues to provide funding towards the Just Grace Qhubeka youth programme. The funding is primarily focused on providing participating youth with comprehensive material support and guidance over a four-year period (from Grade 9 to Grade 12).

Domino Foundation

Established in 2005, The Domino Foundation is a reputable non-profit organisation based in Durban, KZN with a commitment to building resilient communities through mercy, justice and empowerment.

Over the past 18 years, their mandate has been to see individuals within South Africa living with dignity, hope and purpose and they achieve this through a variety of integrated programmes which they refer to as from “Cradle to Career” as part of the #DominoEffect.

The AVI Community Investment Trust continues to support towards the Foundation’s nutrition programme across the communities and schools that they serve in KwaZulu-Natal.

St Mungo’s Diepsloot Community Action

St Mungo’s Diepsloot Community Action mandate is to uplift and empower the community through Education, Vocational Training, and Enterprise Development (SMMEs and Co-operatives), help the community to develop life skills and income, address hunger and extreme poverty and address the ravages of HIV/AIDS, drugs and alcohol, crime and violence.

The AVI Community Trust has partnered with St Mungo’s over the years on projects that allows disadvantaged youths over the age of 18 years who have not achieved their matric to achieve a matric equivalent education and skills. In addition this enables them to become employable or self-employed through the Adult Basic Education and Training, carpentry and sewing programs. A new project commenced in January 2017 with the opening of an Early Childhood Development Centre (ECD) – Khulani (meaning ‘grow’), which has two classes, Grade 00 (aged 4-5 years old) and Grade 000 (aged 3- 4 years old).

National Sea Rescue Institute

NSRI’s rescue stations are manned by over 1350 unpaid volunteers who are on call 24/7, all ready to respond to water-related emergencies. We have a core staff operating from our Head Office in Cape Town, and a number of full and part-time water-safety educators, marketers, lifeguards and call-centre staff working off site.

We have 46 rescue cases around the country, including 5 inland with a total of 100 rescue vessels, 32 rescue vehicles and 12 quad bikes and ATVs (All Terrain
Vehicles).

NSRI enjoys an excellent working relationship with other emergency services, and believes that it is through a team effort that lives are saved.

Learn to Earn

The vision of Learn to Earn is to eradicate poverty and other legacies of injustice in South Africa and Africa.  Learn to Earn provides market-relevant skills training across  3 training venues in the Western Cape with their mission being to develop people, especially unemployed people economically, emotionally, socially and spiritually. Through programmes that give a ‘hand up not a hand out’ Learn to Earn restores hope, dignity and self-respect of unemployed people, empowering them to provide from themselves and their families.

The students receive core skills training with supplementary life skills, basic computer skills, office administration, sewing and hospitality & barista programmes.  In addition to up skilling their learners, they also facilitate access to further education and economic opportunities.

The funding provided by the AVI Community Trust for the period was allocated in full to sponsoring 144 unemployed individuals for a Bake for Profit course in Khayelitsha (120 students), Technical Skills Training in Claremont(14 Students) and a Home Management course at the Hermanus campus (10 students).
