our philosophy
For AVI sustainable development requires the identification and active
management of those issues that could materially affect the long term successful
existence of the Company in respect of all stakeholders – shareholders,
consumers, employees, customers, suppliers, government and local communities.
AVI considers its sustainable development responsibilities under the
following three broad categories:
ethics
Ethics are the cornerstone to building an effective organisation that will be
able to sustain itself without compromise or censure in the long term.
sustaining scarce resources
In addition to managing the very specific risk relating to its hake fishing
resources, AVI is committed to the general application of sustainability
practices across its operations.
transformation and responsible corporate citizenship
AVI recognises the social and economic imperative to embrace and support
transformation in South Africa and to be representative of the transforming
society that it operates in. AVI strives to meet the expectations of
stakeholders so that it continues to be regarded as a valuable participant of
South Africa, especially in the following areas:
- Transformation
- The AVI Black Staff Empowerment scheme
- The BBBEE rating
- Equity ownership
- Employment equity
- Preferential procurement
- Skills development
- Good corporate citizenship
- Employee wellness
- Community social investment
- Environmental responsibility
